Whoo Whoo!

Noting that I love birds, amazing colors, antics and just plain "flighty" - excuse the pun.

While in Florida during Spring Break my 12 yr. old grandson went to an aquarium where he spotted (another pun) an owl. Being MY grandson he decided to photograph it and I am sure he did it just for me. It is now my background for my computer. I look at it everyday as I use my computer so I reflect on Mr. or Mrs. Owl (still can't decide) as to what she/he might be saying to us. If you enhance this photo by clicking on it you get a b etter idea of what I mean. Seems to be saying "Look, I've been up all night, get your darn photo" or what does he/she say to you?.

Puffed Up for Spring

Husband saw this bluebird sitting in a tree just under a birdhouse he built. Looks like she is cold but I think she is ready to produce a little one. Reminds me of when I was pregnant.
How do you tell if it is Female or Male? They both get well-fed around our home.

Spring is about to be Sprung???

Don't like to get my hopes up just yet. There is a Walnut tree in our backyard that we watch this time of year. When that tree starts budding we know that cold weather is over and it has not done that as yet. Our pear trees have buds on them as does the cherry tree. We shall see!

But looking out our breakfast window this morning I spotted two birds, wrens I believe, in our plum tree checking our birdhouse and if you click on the photo you can see pieces of grass in one of the birds mouth. She or he just waiting for the right time to jump right in and lay that down for their new borns. Being kind of a nut for birds, took this photo to share with you all. Hope you enjoy one of the signs of Spring here in Tennessee.

Bird Watch - Final Exit

Well, the great day arrived. The Birds are gone! Yes, Gone! and I didn't get to
see them on their first flight. I almost felt like a grandma to these gems and was
putting out crumbs near them so their Mamma and Pappa didn't have to fly so far for food. Yes, I need to get a job.
However, I looked in the nest to take a final picture and they had flown the nest.
Gone, goodbye. Well, maybe in the Spring or even this Winter there will be a new
bunch inhabiting my deck in my watering can.

Yellow Finch

Not to bore you I hope but these birds to me are amazing and such a gift to be able to see them easily in my yard. This is a yellow finch that decided the bird feeders were to crowded and prefer the tasty seeds from sunflowers. These sunflowers were
not planted by me, they just appeared. These photos I shot while looking out the window in my office room.

Hummingbird

Having another cuppa coffee on the deck this morning we noticed a hummingbird
just sitting on a weathervane attached to our deck (it is a deck, covered and about 1 story up) sipping at the rain drops. This picture amazed me because he or she is wet and not colorful at the moment and sips at a raindrop. That is her tongue shooting out of her beak. I never saw that before and was hoping you would like to see it.

UPDATE: Blue Birds

Yesterday I checked this nest and there were no eggs. Today July 4th there were these beautiful color blue eggs. I am hoping to watch them develope into babies but I may be rving by that time. I try to keep Katie our Boston Terrier from sniffing around them too and you can also see the Dad is keeping his watch over this event. Amazing that this is occuring right under our noses as we drink our morning coffee. What worries me the most is that these eggs are really exposed and there are mean birds like mocking birds that love to raid them. Don't know why I have two pictures of the birds eggs. UPDATE: Baby birds arrive
Short but sweet video while Momma and Pappy were watching me, so I had to make it brief. They had their mouths open ready for me to feed them. My camera setting was wrong for this making the photo a little light and they would not wait for me to change it.

Another Update: Picture taken of Momma Bird and Daddy waiting for me to get the heck out of here so they could feed their birds. Notice the food in Momma's mouth. This is so interesting watching these birds. They are starting to get use to my being around them.

Spring is in the Air!

These pictures were taken outside (of course) of a blackcapped chickadee
and a downy woodpecker. Just look at the woodpecker's expression.
